Last week, a worker was injured in a construction accident at Center City in Philadelphia. Reports indicate that the accident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. outside of the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul at Race Street and 17th Street.

The construction worker fell when the crane he was operating suddenly tipped over. Witnesses say he fell about 50 feet. Paramedics took the injured worker to Hahnemann University Hospital for treatment of a fractured femur. Officials did not report the condition the man was in at the hospital, but he was said to have been conscious after the fall.

Investigators have been at the scene of the accident in order to determine what caused the crane to fall. Although they are currently unsure, authorities say uneven pavement or wind could have factored into the accident.

Pfizer recalls birth control, risk of unintended pregnancy

Earlier this week, Pfizer Inc., the world’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, issued a recall of 1 million packs of oral contraceptives, or birth control.

The company reported that a manufacturing error caused some of the 28-pill birth control packs to be packaged with the incorrect ratio of hormone pills to sugar pills, which could put some women at risk of unintended pregnancy.

The recalled birth control packs are Lo/Ovral-28 and its generic form, Norgestrel and Ethinyl Estradoil.  These drugs are intended to have 21 hormone pills and 7 sugar pills.  When they are not taken in the correct order or amount, the pills’ effectiveness at preventing pregnancy is significantly reduced.

Women taking these medications should talk to their doctor about their risks and about using a different contraceptive immediately.

Ford Motor Co. announced this week that it will be recalling 2001-2002 Ford Escape SUVs, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar minivans, and 2004-2005 Mercury Monterey minivans.
