What is negligence?

Negligence is one of the most common causes of personal injury lawsuits. Generally speaking, negligence occurs when an individual or group acts in a careless manner, failing to uphold their duty to protect the health and safety of others. For instance, a restaurant owner who failed to follow health codes may be considered to have acted negligently. Larger groups and corporations can also be held accountable for negligence in some situations.
